The first word that comes to your mind is “stunning.” And that’s just the moment you enter Mesa Verde National Park. As you wind your way up to 8500 feet, stopping to contemplate views that span over a hundred miles, you’ll begin to realize this isn’t a place you can do in a day. |

Monument Valley |

Hier zullen we twee nachten verblijven.
Monument Valley provides perhaps the most enduring and definitive images of the American West. The isolated red mesas and buttes surrounded by empty, sandy desert have been filmed and photographed countless times over the years for movies, adverts and holiday brochures. Because of this, the area may seem quite familiar, even on a first visit, but it is soon evident that the natural colors really are as bright and deep as those in all the pictures. The valley is not a valley in the conventional sense, but rather a wide flat, sometimes desolate landscape, interrupted by the crumbling formations rising hundreds of feet into the air, the last remnants of the sandstone layers that once covered the entire region. |

In Elk city zullen we een deel gaan rijden. (Oklahoma) ...and they come into 66 from the tributary side roads, from the wagon tracks and the rutted country roads, 66 is the mother road, the road of flight.

Na mijn bezoek in 2005 zal ik deze gedenkwaardige plek wederom bezoeken. The Sixth Floor Museum at Dealey Plaza chronicles the assassination and legacy of President John F. Kennedy; interprets and supports the Dealey Plaza National Historical Landmark District and the John F. Kennedy Memorial Plaza; and presents contemporary culture within the context of presidential history. |
